Lindsay Lohan Dating Sam. No, Not THAT Sam...

How refreshing it is to hear a story about Lindsay Lohan that doesn’t involved embarrassing displays of affection (or, rather, rejection) via Twitter…

According to reports, Li-Lo has (finally) moved on from ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson and has now fallen for English model Sam Webb.

‘She’s obsessed with Sam. She’s looking for projects that are based in England so she can be near him’ a friend told Radar magazine.

According to the Sun, it’s not just party animal Lindsay that has falled head over heels, as a friend of Webb claimed ‘He can’t believe it. A few years ago he lived in Birmingham with his mum and dad. Now he’s dating someone off Hollywood’s A-list. Sam’s a humble guy. But dating Lindsay’s enough to turn even his head.’

Lindsay the nun(none)

Lindsay Lohan got her lawyers to file a suit against an E-Trade add. The offending like asked a toddler if he was out on a date with a milkoholic Lindsay. For Lohan that is a $100M dollar insult.

You can bet on one thing. It will be thrown out of court so fast on the first day, for her it will be a WTF moment.

Several reasons exist for this. First it said milkoholic. There is nothing deleterious about that. Indeed one could say that being accused of loving dairy would be a redeeming point.

Second she claims that the name Lindsay is a brand. This it is not. Lindsay is a far more common name. Even Madonna can’t exactly sue because Madonna is a religious figure. The latter never did sue the Catholic Church for name infringement. And Lindsay is a very common personal name. Had the ad said Lohan, she might have had a case.

Third, any lawsuit like this implies some sort of injury or damage. It does not.

Fourth, earlier the same day a cosmetic firm dropped her sponsorship deal.

The Lost Boy

Day 12. Today I learned some sad news. While riding the subway to work and perusing the celebs gossip section of the Metro I quickly learned of Corey Haim’s death. I never had a chance to see any of his work, like The Lost Boys or License to Drive, and renting them now would ultimately be too depressing, (I’ll give it a month or so before heading to the video store). I’ve heard good things about Lost Boys, but sadly I only really know Corey Haim from his attempt at a comeback in A&E’s reality series The Two Coreys. Because of this show I was aware of both Coreys’ drug habits and stints in rehab, and while Corey Feldman managed sobriety, it seemed that Haim was too far gone. The show was on TV in 2007, and the problems were clear then, with Haim relapsing back into perscription meds; taking as many as 85 pills a day to keep him going. Knowing the star’s habits, Haim’s death, would seem a product of his drug abuse, but according to recent reports he had a number of other serious medial conditions that may have played into his demise. He had an enlarged heart and water in his lungs upon his death, but it’s hard to say anything concrete about his death until all the test results are in.

It can be hard to watch a person spiral out of control, and for a lot of celebs it’s not just family they have to contend with, but fans and strangers who get to read about their personal lifes and misfortunes on a casual commute. When I heard about Casey Johnson, (Johnson & Johnson heiress) and her death, I was stunned, because here I was, I’d never heard of Casey Johnson, but suddenly I knew all about her and her descent into drugs and partying. I know Lohan’s on the same route; hope I don’t have to read about her in the obits.

In short, today I learned to just say no to drugs.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for March 9, 2010

Well, to say that I have found the discussions around unemployment to be interesting would be an understatement. I began with a simply premise, what can be done to fix unemployment insurance? I had hoped to get some input from folks on all sides of the issue. And I was not disappointed. Whta I have to now figure out how to refine is the way that it is all wrapped up and some conclusions are formed. There were several ideas out there and a lot of discussion around other parts. There were even some discussions around whether the system is broken in the first place. I look forward to any thoughts on how we might possibly be able to wrap any of it up or whether there is even a need to do so. But for now, we have open mic. Which means four random topics from me and others from you. First we touch on the madness that is Lindsay Lohan and frivolous lawsuits. Then some opinion on liberal mindsets, a democratic double standard on corporate money in politics, and finally bank regulation causing bank behavior which leads to more regulation….

Lindsay Lohan is Suing E-Trade

If you don’t know why Lindsay Lohan is suing E-Trade, here’s why: In the past Superbowl, a commercial aired about two baby’s talking through a computer, and then the girl baby said: “That milkaholic Lindsay wasn’t over?”.

Now, Lindsay Lohan is suing E-Trade for 100 million dollars for that. For slandering her name or using her name and showing it in a bad light.

I don’t know, because I’m not a lawyer and I’m not a person that has the name “Lindsay”, but this lawsuit seems really petty and trivial. There are a lot of people named Lindsay, but apparently, her lawyer seems to think that Lindsay has a monopoly on the name. I really hope I’m not using her name that I could get sued right now. I don’t think she copyrighted her name. And E-Trade didn’t use the full name, just Lindsay.

Her Lawyer stated: “Many celebrities are known by one name only, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit,” I could understand that if Lindsay is a really uncommon name, and it was unique to her, or she was on that plateau of stardom that Lindsay and her are almost one and the same. Cher or Madonna, these one-name people, they have those names because of their stardom, and also double as a name that’s unique, so the name and the person are closely related. But Lindsay isn’t there yet, in my opinion, and also, her name is a common girl’s name.

Her Lawyer claims “They’re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn’t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan.” Again, this is a stretch, she’s suing because the Lindsay in the commercial is called a “milk-aholic” that is is relating to Lindsay’s life in a bad way. Which is another stretch. And as for the Susan bit, the lawyer is making it seem that Susan is an easier or more obvious choice and E-Trade went out of their way to pick Lindsay as the name. Lindsay happens to be a common baby name, which is what the company is arguing, and it is a legitimate argument. They just happened to pick a name, if it was any other name, maybe someone else might have got mad, but most likely, it wouldn’t have been a problem.

“Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan.” First off, who are these “people”? And why are they talking about it saying its Lindsay? Lindsay must be really self-conscious about how “people” view her. Are these her friends, fans, other people in the industry? Why does that matter, and how does that really affect her? It’s a funny commercial, I think she should view it that way and not be so critical of it.

100 million dollars is a lot of money, and for what? Even if it is a legitimate argument, is 100 million the right asking price? Did that company really hurt her that much for that type of money? Aren’t we in a recession, and Lindsay Lohan is suing companies? People need to change.

Lindsay Lohan must either have a big ego for her to think every time the name Lindsay is murmured, that it must be her. Or she just wants money. I don’t know, but this whole thing seems silly.

There are a lot of other Lindsay’s in the world, and I bet most of them thought the commercial was funny and didn’t think twice of it.

Here’s the Link to the article where I first read it: http://omg.yahoo.com/news/lindsay-lohan-suing-e-trade-for-milkaholic-parody/37130?nc

(And to be honest, I don’t really like write about things like this, I’d like to write about things that make me think, and I don’t like the usual “editorial” or “modern journalism” styles that I used writing this, I prefer writing about different types of subjects, but this just really made me mad about how petty and silly it is. People look too much into things and get mad by looking into things too much, and this was a perfect example that made me really mad. So I felt I had to write about it.)

No Lohan for Ungaro This Time Around Around

Looks like Lindsay Lohan will have “no hand” (bad pun we know) with Ungaro’s recent collection. Lohan was named artistic adviser at Emanuel Ungaro, last year but was a no show at the French firm’s fashion show this morning.

When asked where LiLo was the response was very blunt “She’s not involved in this collection,” Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah told WWD backstage before the show, declining further comment.

Stylistically yours,
The Stylistic Approach
